A global leader in telecommunications products, Motorola has provided integrated communications solutions to
consumer, commercial, industrial, and government customers for 75 years. Based in Schaumberg, IL, Motorola operates
manufacturing and sales locations in more than 40 countries. For over ten years, FB Johnston Graphics has provided
them with product information nameplates, logo labels, FCC, instructional, and laser-engravable labels along with
various other labels and overlays
One of the few telecom product manufacturers that still private-label their products, Motorola requires many different service
provider logo and name labels on their digital phones, pagers, and radios, in literally hundreds of different configurations.
Motorola needed a way to simplify their ordering process so that purchasers and artists working for their numerous subcontractors
could easily order the graphics they required for their projects. Multiple product numbers, artwork files, shapes and colors for
product labels needed to be organized and presented in an easy-to-use format. FBJ's internal account team for Motorola, including
representatives from production, customer service, and prepress, came up with a pricing book that features a color picture of the
label's artwork to size, along with the corresponding information, a reference index, and an easy to use pricing matrix. Any one of
Motorola's personnel can determine the correct label and price, without first needing to know what the label
looks like or its corresponding product number.
"We're extremely pleased with what FBJ developed," says Motorola's Jon Vredevoogd. "They showed great initiative and outstanding
thinking. To take what was a complex and complicated process and streamline it down to a book that's easy to use tells me they're
really interested in helping us. We can now do in a matter of minutes what it used to take a day or two to complete." This commitment
to innovative thinking to solve problems, combined with an absolute dedication to quality and on-time delivery, has led to FBJ becoming
the sole label supplier for Motorola's iDEN group.
